Moza R3 vs R5 Pro: what you gain by moving up a step

They are the first and second steps of Moza's direct drive range. The R5 Pro gives 6 Nm against the R3's 3.9, over 50% more force, and that is what you are really paying for when you move up. But it only works on PC, whereas the R3 also comes in an Xbox version. If you play on console, the decision is already made; if you play on PC and plan to stay with this for years, the R5 Pro takes longer to fall short.

In bold, what differs between the two. Figures from each manufacturer's official sheet; "not published" means the brand does not give it. We do not show prices because they change every week.

The force

Moza publishes 3.9 Nm for the R3 and 6 Nm for the R5 Pro. Both are direct drive, so neither has the gears or belt of entry-level wheels: the difference is how much headroom is left to pass on detail before hitting the limit. At 3.9 Nm you already feel the jump from a gear-driven wheel; at 6 Nm there is considerably more headroom, especially if you turn the overall force down for long sessions.

The consoles

There is no nuance here. The R3 has one bundle for PC and another for Xbox. Moza presents the R5 Pro as a Windows product, with no console version. Neither works on PlayStation, so if you play on PS5 you need to look at other brands.

The pedals and the rim

Both bundles come with two pedals, throttle and brake, with no load cell: SR-P Lite on the R3 and SR-P Lite2, with Hall sensors, on the R5 Pro. The R5 Pro's rim is the ES Lite, 28 cm across, with TPE grips, an aluminium frame and paddles, 22 buttons and 10 RGB rev lights. The R3's also has 22 buttons and rev lights, with an aluminium rim and PU grips. The rim is not what justifies the change: the base is.
