Wheel comparison

Moza R5 vs Fanatec CSL DD: the second step in direct drive

Both are direct drive and both are PC only. The CSL DD gives more force, 8 Nm against 5.5, and its pedals accept a load cell brake. The R5 comes with Hall-sensor pedals as standard and is sold on Amazon; the CSL DD is sold through Fanatec's own store. If you are going to stay in this for years, the CSL DD has more room to grow; if you want something that works well from day one, the R5.

In bold, what differs between the two. Figures from each manufacturer's official sheet; "not published" means the brand does not give it. We do not show prices because they change every week.

The force

Moza publishes 5.5 Nm for the R5 and Fanatec 8 Nm for the CSL DD in its 8 Nm version. More torque is not just more stiffness: it is more headroom for the wheel to pass on detail without hitting its limit, especially with heavy cars. For a single seater in a game like F1 25, the R5's 5.5 Nm rarely falls short.

The pedals

Both bundles come with two Hall-sensor pedals, throttle and brake. The difference is the future: Fanatec's CSL Pedals can take a load cell brake, which measures pressure rather than travel, like a real car. The R5's SR-P Lite pedals do not; for that you need different pedals.

The rim and where to buy it

Each brand has its own quick release, Moza's and Fanatec's QR2, so one brand's rims do not fit the other: when you choose a base you are choosing the range of rims you will have. The CSL DD has a three-digit LED display and RPM lights. The R5 is sold on Amazon; the CSL DD, at Fanatec's store.
