Cookie Policy

Last updated: 25 September 2026

The short version

If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, a Google notice asks for your permission when you arrive, and until you accept this site stores no analytics or advertising cookies at all. The Google Analytics and Google AdSense scripts do load, but they start with consent denied through Google’s Consent Mode v2, which is applied before those scripts can run. Without your permission they measure in aggregate and do not identify you. Outside those regions no notice is shown and cookies are used from the start; below we explain how to turn them off.

What actually gets stored

Much of what this site remembers is not cookies at all but browser local storage: it stays on your machine and is not sent to the server with every request. This is the complete list.

NameTypeWhat it is for
FCCDCF, FCNECCookie, GoogleStore your decision in Google’s consent notice so you are not asked again. Necessary: without them there is no way to honour your choice.
f1-themeLocal, first partyWhether you prefer the light or dark theme.
f1-langLocal, first partyThe language you picked, Spanish or English.
f1-settingsLocal, first partyInterface preferences.
f1sim-gameLocal, first partyThe state of any game you have in progress, so it survives a reload.
whatif_savedLocal, first partyAny scenarios you saved in the What If mode.
next-auth.*Cookie, first partyOnly if you sign in: keeps your session open. Strictly necessary and cannot be switched off while you are logged in.
_ga, _ga_SCERE7ZJD0Cookie, GoogleGoogle Analytics 4. Measures visits statistically. In Europe, the UK and Switzerland, only written if you accept.
Google AdSense cookiesCookie, GoogleAdvertising. In Europe, the UK and Switzerland, only written if you accept. With consent denied, any ads served are non-personalised.

The three categories

  • Necessary. They make the site work: remembering your cookie decision, your language, your theme and your game. They cannot be switched off, because without them there is no usable site, and they are not used to profile you.
  • Analytics. Google Analytics 4, to know which pages get read and which do not. It is what tells me whether an article was worth writing.
  • Advertising. Google AdSense. It is what keeps the site free. If you decline, you can still use every single part of it.

Changing your mind

Whenever you like, no explanation needed. This button reopens Google’s notice (outside Europe, where there is no notice, it takes you to Google’s page for turning off personalised ads):

You can also clear cookies and local storage from your browser settings. If you do, the site will forget your language, your theme and any game in progress, and will ask you about cookies again.

Third parties

The only third parties that can write cookies here are Google Analytics y Google AdSense, and in Europe only with your permission. What Google does with that data is governed by its own terms, which you can read in how Google uses information from sites that use its services. There are no embedded social networks, no tracking pixels from other platforms, and no advertising from any other network.
