Wheel comparison

Moza R3 vs Logitech G923: direct drive or gears

It is the question of anyone buying their first serious wheel: the Moza R3 is direct drive, with the motor attached to the rim and no gears in between, and it gives 3.9 Nm against the G923's 2.3. You feel it in every corner. But the R3 only works on PC and Xbox, and it comes with two pedals instead of three. If you play on PlayStation or want a clutch, the G923; on PC or Xbox, the R3.

In bold, what differs between the two. Figures from each manufacturer's official sheet; "not published" means the brand does not give it. We do not show prices because they change every week.

The motor

In a gear-driven wheel like the G923, the motor moves the rim through a set of gears, and you feel that as a slight roughness and a less precise touch in corrections. In the R3's direct drive there is nothing between the motor and the rim: the force arrives directly and more smoothly. Moza publishes 3.9 Nm of torque and unlimited rotation; Logitech, 2.3 Nm and 900 degrees.

Pedals and what is in the box

The G923 comes with three metal pedals, including a clutch, and a progressive brake. The R3 bundle comes with the SR-P Lite: two steel pedals with Hall sensors, throttle and brake, no clutch. For driving with paddle shifters, which is how Formula 1 is raced, you do not need a clutch; for a road car with a gear stick, you do. The R3 rim comes off with Moza's quick release, so later you can swap it for a formula rim.

The console

Here is the difference that decides it for many people: the Moza R3 has no PlayStation licence. It works on PC, and a separate bundle is sold for Xbox. The G923 has a PlayStation version and an Xbox version, and both work on PC.
