Mark Blundell won the 24 Hours of Le Mans before he had a regular Formula 1 seat. A Briton born in 1966, he made his debut with Brabham in 1991, scored a point in Belgium, and in 1992 was left without a drive and became McLaren test driver. That June he won Le Mans with Peugeot, alongside Derek Warwick and Yannick Dalmas.

He came back in 1993 with Ligier and it was his best season: third in South Africa and in Germany, 10 points and tenth in the championship. In 1994 he moved to Tyrrell and was on the podium again in Spain, third.

In 1995 McLaren finally put him in its car, first to cover the two races Nigel Mansell could not drive and then, when Mansell left, the rest of the year. He scored 13 points, with two fourth places, but the team signed David Coulthard for 1996. He went to CART with 61 Grands Prix, 32 points and three podiums.

The first number is always Blundell's. A team-mate is whoever started the same race for the same team. "In the race" only counts races both finished, because a retirement says nothing about who was quicker. "On the grid" is the starting position, with penalties already applied.
