Aguri Suzuki was the first Japanese driver on a Formula 1 podium, and he did it at home. Born in 1960, he made his debut with Larrousse in Japan in 1988, and his big season came in 1990 with the same team: sixth in Britain and Spain, and third at Suzuka, in front of his own fans.

He never got close to that again. In 1991 he scored one point in Phoenix from twenty-first on the grid, and then came two pointless years with Footwork. In 1994 he raced once for Jordan in place of the suspended Eddie Irvine.

In 1995 he shared the second Ligier with Martin Brundle and scored one last point in Germany. In practice at Suzuka he crashed and broke ribs, and decided to retire there and then. He stopped at 65 Grands Prix and 8 points, and years later founded his own Formula 1 team, Super Aguri.

The first number is always Suzuki's. A team-mate is whoever started the same race for the same team. "In the race" only counts races both finished, because a retirement says nothing about who was quicker. "On the grid" is the starting position, with penalties already applied.
