Sébastien Buemi scored in his very first Formula 1 race. A Swiss driver born in 1988 and brought up through Red Bull's young driver programme, he made his debut with Toro Rosso in Australia in 2009: he started thirteenth and finished seventh. He was the first Swiss on the grid in years, and the start looked promising.

What followed were three similar seasons in a car at the lower end of the field: 6 points in 2009, 8 in 2010 and 15 in 2011, with two eighth places as his best result in the last two. He spent his last two years alongside Jaime Alguersuari, and the fight between them stayed close to the end.

In December 2011 Red Bull dropped both at once to make room for Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Éric Vergne. Buemi stayed on as Red Bull reserve and found outside Formula 1 what he never had inside it: he was Formula E champion in 2016 and won the 24 Hours of Le Mans four times with Toyota. In Formula 1 he stopped at 55 Grands Prix and 29 points.

The first number is always Buemi's. A team-mate is whoever started the same race for the same team. "In the race" only counts races both finished, because a retirement says nothing about who was quicker. "On the grid" is the starting position, with penalties already applied.
