Jean-Éric Vergne raced three seasons with Toro Rosso, and his Formula 1 story is best told through who was next to him. A Frenchman born in 1990, he made his debut in 2012 alongside Daniel Ricciardo, and the two shared a garage for two years with the same goal: the Red Bull seat Mark Webber was about to vacate.
On points it was close: 16 in 2012, with four eighth places, and 13 in 2013, with a sixth in Canada that was then his best result. But Red Bull chose Ricciardo for 2014, and the rest is well known: Ricciardo won three races that year.
Vergne stayed at Toro Rosso with Daniil Kvyat and had his best season, 22 points and thirteenth in the championship, with another sixth place in Singapore from twelfth on the grid. It was not enough: for 2015 the team went with Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz. He left with 58 Grands Prix and 51 points, and in Formula E he became the first driver to win two titles.

The first number is always Vergne's. A team-mate is whoever started the same race for the same team. "In the race" only counts races both finished, because a retirement says nothing about who was quicker. "On the grid" is the starting position, with penalties already applied.
