Zhou Guanyu is the first Chinese driver to race a full Formula 1 season. Born in Shanghai in 1999, he arrived in 2022 with Alfa Romeo and scored in his first race: he started fifteenth in Bahrain and finished tenth.
That same year he had the most frightening crash of his career. At the start at Silverstone his car flipped, slid upside down and cleared the tyre barrier; he walked away, and it was the halo that protected him. Two weeks earlier he had been eighth in Canada, his best result at the time, and he ended the year with 6 points.
He raced all three seasons with Valtteri Bottas as team-mate. In 2023 he again scored 6 points, and in 2024, in a Sauber that was the slowest car on the grid for most of the year, he took the team's only points: eighth in Qatar, two races from the end. That made 68 Grands Prix and 16 points before the team changed its line-up for 2025.
