Timo Glock is the driver Lewis Hamilton passed at the last corner of the 2008 championship. A German born in 1982, he raced four rounds for Jordan in 2004, scored points in the first and moved on to other series. He came back to Formula 1 in 2008 with Toyota.

That year he was second in Hungary and tenth in the championship. In the last race, in Brazil, he stayed out on dry tyres in the final laps when the rain started, and at the penultimate corner Hamilton passed him and won the title by a point. Glock finished sixth.

In 2009 he was tenth again and added two more podiums: third in Malaysia and second in Singapore, in the night race, his best result. He was injured in qualifying in Japan, missed the last three races, and Toyota left Formula 1 that winter.

After that he chose the new Virgin project, later Marussia, and raced three seasons without scoring a point. Three podiums, all with Toyota, and his name in one of the most famous final laps in history.

What if Glock had another car?

We took his real attributes and put him in the best car of each era: in a real driver's seat, against the team-mate that car actually had. 30 full seasons in each.

What would Timo Glock have achieved with a different car or in a different era?

His team-mates

5 team-mates across 6 seasons. When both finished the race, Glock was ahead in 32 of 55; on the grid he started ahead in 53 of 94.

The first number is always Glock's. A team-mate is whoever started the same race for the same team. "In the race" only counts races both finished, because a retirement says nothing about who was quicker. "On the grid" is the starting position, with penalties already applied.
