Nicholas Latifi raced three seasons in Formula 1, all with Williams and all at the back of the grid. A Canadian born in 1995, he arrived in 2020 after finishing runner-up in Formula 2, and his first year ended without a single point: his best result was eleventh on his debut in Austria, while team-mate George Russell took almost everything the car had to give.

2021 was his best year. In Hungary, in a race turned upside down at the first corner, he finished seventh, and in Belgium he scored a point in the race that was never really run in the rain. Seven points in all. But that year he is remembered for something else: his crash in the closing laps in Abu Dhabi brought out the safety car that decided the title between Verstappen and Hamilton.

In 2022, with Alexander Albon as team-mate, he scored only in Japan, ninth. Williams did not renew him. He left with 61 Grands Prix and 9 points, and a place in history no driver would choose.

What would Nicholas Latifi have achieved with a different car or in a different era?

His team-mates

4 team-mates across 3 seasons. When both finished the race, Latifi was ahead in 4 of 37; on the grid he started ahead in 10 of 59.

The first number is always Latifi's. A team-mate is whoever started the same race for the same team. "In the race" only counts races both finished, because a retirement says nothing about who was quicker. "On the grid" is the starting position, with penalties already applied.
