Daniil Kvyat reached Red Bull at 21 and beat Daniel Ricciardo in their first season together. A Russian born in 1994, he made his debut in 2014 with Toro Rosso and the following year moved up to the senior team. In 2015 he was second in Hungary and finished seventh in the championship with 95 points, three ahead of his team-mate.

The next year began with a podium, third in China, and went wrong within two weeks. In Russia, at home, he hit Sebastian Vettel twice on the first lap, and Red Bull sent him back to Toro Rosso for the following race. His seat went to Max Verstappen, who won in Spain that very Sunday.

At Toro Rosso he did not recover his level and at the end of 2017 he was out. He spent a year as a Ferrari simulator driver and came back in 2019, again with Toro Rosso. In Germany, on a wet track that was drying, he finished third: the team's first podium since Vettel's win at Monza in 2008.

He raced one more season with the team, by then called AlphaTauri, and signed off in 2020. Three podiums across two separate spells, and a career remembered for the weekend he lost his seat.

What if Kvyat had another car?

We took his real attributes and put him in the best car of each era: in a real driver's seat, against the team-mate that car actually had. 30 full seasons in each.

The first number is always Kvyat's. A team-mate is whoever started the same race for the same team. "In the race" only counts races both finished, because a retirement says nothing about who was quicker. "On the grid" is the starting position, with penalties already applied.
