Michael Schumacher

Alemán · 1991–2006, 2010–2012

7× World Champion(1994, 1995, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004)

Michael Schumacher redefined what it meant to be a professional Formula 1 driver. He debuted in 1991 with Jordan at Spa and left everyone stunned; barely a race later he was at Benetton. With that team he claimed his first two titles in 1994 and 1995, the first after a controversial finale against Damon Hill in Adelaide.

In 1996 he took on the hardest challenge of all: rebuilding a Ferrari that had gone two decades without a drivers' championship. Alongside Jean Todt, Ross Brawn and Rory Byrne, he forged the most dominant dynasty of his time — five straight titles between 2000 and 2004. His 2002 and 2004 seasons, with 11 and 13 wins respectively, rank among the most crushing ever seen.

He retired in 2006, returned with Mercedes from 2010 to 2012 and closed his career with 91 wins and seven championships, figures only Hamilton has matched. Beyond the numbers, he revolutionised physical preparation, teamwork and the demands placed on a garage. His career also carries controversial episodes, but his influence on the modern sport is beyond question.

What if Schumacher had another car?

We took his real attributes and put him in the best car of each era — in a real driver's seat, against the team-mate that car actually had. 20 full seasons in each.
